Not Myself Today

Hey guess what guys?!

Partners for Mental Health is officially launching the Not Myself Today campaign again on April 2nd!  Last year we saw 137 companies participate in this campaign and we have already surpassed that number this year!

What is this campaign I speak of?

Not Myself Today is a campaign that gives insight to the fact that we all have bad days and we are told to suppress those feelings – to keep them inside.  For people struggling with a mental illness, this means trying to cope with these feelings alone, without the support needed.  The Not Myself Today campaign was developed to reduce stigma and help improve mental health at the workplace.

Organizations across Canada have partnered with the Not Myself Today campaign to promote a healthy workplace.  Participating organizations receive tools, supports, and resources to educate and engage employees around this very important issue.

The stats:

  • Only 23% of people would talk about their mental illness with their employer
  • 44% of workers said they have or have had mental health issues
  • $51B is the annual economic cost of mental illness in Canada
  • 1 in 3 workplace disability claims are due to mental illness
  • Mental illness trumps heart disease as the fastest growing category of disability cost
  • There is a 3X greater change of lost productivity for people living with depression
  • 500,000 Canadians missed work this week due to mental illness

It is estimated that up to 25% of the costs of mental health issues to employers can be avoided.  If you are a company and are interested in being a part of this campaign, you ROCK! Well, I guess that’s the obvious.  But you will also be recognized as a leader and will recognize your employees improved morale, increased productivity, reduced absenteeism, and reduced disability claims.  I’ve seen it with my own eyes in a company I have worked with in the past.  The campaign provides companies with tons of neat support stuff including wall decals, buttons and stickers, posters, conversation cards and much more.

“I’m an individual, what can I do?” Check out the mini kit! There’s information sheets, resources, stickers, posters, activity sheets and all sorts of cool stuff! Bring in some of the cool stuff from the kit to your work place – you, as an individual, are also a leader!  We also encourage you to organize an event or fundraiser at your organization to promote a health workplace.

You won’t regret it, I promise!
