I'm a young woman living with Bipolar Disorder, IBS & a gluten intolerance, and I'm here to share how cooking, humour, and positive thinking have completely changed my life.
I believe a little crazy and a lot of love can always get you where you want to go.
My name is Ashley. I like writing and reading and yoga-ing and travelling. But mostly, I like writing.
Now here I am, writing about my passion, mental health.
I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder type II and Generalized Anxiety Disorder in 2008. For those of you who don’t know, Bipolar is a mood disorder that affects about 390, 094 people in Canada. Paired with an anxiety disorder, I’ve struggled with severe depressions, some ups, and a general irritable mood. I was very relieved to be diagnosed. Through humor and extremely hard work, I have found myself a healthy and happy life. Half of my recovery has been through medication, while the other half has been through diet, exercise, cognitive therapy, and really hard work.
I truly believe the more we talk about mental health, the less stigma there will be around it. Mental health is just as important as physical health, therefore it should be talked about in the same way any physical illness is talked about. It's not a secret, it's a fact. And the more we talk, the more people will be willing to get help.
So bring it on world, I am a warrior, and I will be a part of the change.
